New Initiatives

Are you there, operator?

At block 841,886, we inscribed our manifesto, ‘A Declaration of Independence in Cyberspace’, on a sat mined by Satoshi in 2009.

Bitcoin validated the cypherpunk dream and inspired Logos. It’s fitting that it will preserve our vision for coming generations. Our homage extends to an upcoming collection of Bitcoin ordinals for our early supporters.

Events

Logos Assembly

Belgrade Blockchain Week began on 3 June, and kickstarting the conference’s first evening was the second edition of the Logos Assembly – LA2: Belgrade. Thank you to everyone who showed up with curiosity and passion for cryptography and parallel societies in the beautiful city of Belgrade.

We invite you to the third edition of the Logos Assembly – LA 3: Brno on 13 June during DevConf.cz. Sign up to join us for food, drinks, and stimulating discussions.

Web3Privacy Now Summit Prague 2024

Pioneers and thought leaders in the privacy space gathered for the Web3PrivacyNow Summit at Paralelní Polis in Prague. Waku and Logos supported, contributing to discussions on privacy, civil liberties, and our own development efforts. Waku’s Václav Pavlín presented on messaging protocols, and Logos’ Sterlin Lujan held a workshop on the cypherpunk ethos.

Waku

Events

Waku has been all across Berlin Blockchain Week! Protocol Researcher Sergei gave a workshop at ETHBerlin, and also participated on a panel at Web3Privacy Now’s meetup. At Dappcon, Developer Relations Engineer Guru gave a workshop on how Waku can bring decentralised messaging to DApps.

Research Engineer Alvaro presented Waku’s research paper at DLT2024 in Turin. Alvaro showcased simulated and real-world evidence demonstrating that Waku can facilitate fast (<1 second) and secure messaging at scale with RLN.

Solution Engineer Václav presented at Geekle's two-day online event, Worldwide Software Architecture Summit 2024, introducing the audience to DePINs, how they currently work, and what future use cases they might be suitable for.

Waku reached 500 nodes

The Waku network is growing! Having officially surpassed 500 nodes, Waku is more secure than ever. Thank you to the community for your support as we continue to develop the infrastructure for a more private, safe, and censorship-resistant internet for everyone.

Research

RLN v2

Rate Limit Nullifiers (RLN) are based on zero-knowledge proofs and enable message rate-limiting in the Waku Network while preserving users' anonymity. The development team is working on RLN v2, which extends the protocol’s functionality to resource-restricted devices. The development team has added message validation in LightPush before relaying and will continue developing LightPush for attaching RLN proofs to messages received from clients.

Store v3

The Store protocol allows nodes in the Waku network to be queried on their message history. The development team has investigated ways to prune the negentropy storage based on timestamps and determined parameters for a state machine implementation and pruning mechanism. The team will write subrange wrappers for negentropy and use subranges to sync, as well as using hashes to fill the archive with missing messages.

PeerDAS and Data Availability Sampling in Practice

Vitalik Buterin and Dankrad Feist of Ethereum, and Dmitriy Ryajov of Codex joined Hashing it Out for a discussion about challenges and solutions in the realm of data availability and scalability in blockchain systems, particularly Ethereum. From Vitalik’s perspective on the long-term vision to Dmitriy and Dankrad’s insights into specific projects like Codex and data sharding, they tackled a range of topics.

FullDAS: Towards Massive Scalability

In this write-up, Codex continues to document its research into Ethereum scalability and tackling current bottlenecks. The aim of this post was to outline the main building blocks of FullDAS, the networking stack Codex proposes for DAS with blocks of 32MB and beyond.

Events

EthCC is only a month away, and we’re happy to announce that Codex will be at the main conference and side events in Brussels this year. More details coming soon.

Research

Research continues at full steam – the overall picture is becoming clearer and we are progressing towards building out the V1 specifications. Once the team completes the V1 specs, they will be opened to the public.

The recent transition of DarkFi from the PoS-based Ouroboros Crypsinous protocol due to wealth concentration findings motivated us to investigate. In our latest article, we shared findings on the impact of Verifiable Random Functions on wealth concentration in the Cryptsinous leader election function. By favouring either the lowest or highest VRF output or a stochastic approach, we demonstrate how these rules can mitigate or exacerbate wealth disparities among validators.

Events

The Nomos team presented about network states and the purpose of Nomos (including mission and vision) at Logos Assembly 2 during Belgrade Blockchain Week.
